Aquia Inc. Welcomes Jose Velazquez to Aquia Accelerator Apprenticeship Program
The Accelerator program aims to address the cybersecurity talent shortage by providing paid apprenticeships to individuals from underserved communities, those in the midst of career transitions, and United States Veterans
MILLSBORO, Del., March 9, 2023 -- Aquia Inc., a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) specializing in cloud and cybersecurity professional services, today announced the newest member of its Aquia Accelerator program, welcoming Jose Velazquez to the organization at its company-wide offsite meeting in Washington, D.C.
Aquia Accelerator is a 6-month-long paid apprenticeship that includes a dedicated and experienced mentor, access to training materials and curated courseware, and real-world delivery examples. Upon completion of the program, participants may be offered the opportunity to transition into a role as associate governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) specialist at Aquia.
“Employer demand for cybersecurity workers continues to outpace the availability of talent,” said Jonathan (Jono) Sosulska, principal application security architect at Aquia and program lead for Aquia Accelerator. “Through our apprenticeship program, we are identifying incredibly bright, talented individuals like Jose and providing them with the experience necessary to break into and excel in the cybersecurity industry.”
Jose Velazquez is a first-generation Mexican-American college student who is currently pursuing a bachelor of science in Accounting at Sonoma State University.
“Over the years, I’ve heard a lot about cybersecurity but I never knew how to get my foot in the door or if I would fit into the profession,” said Jose Velazquez, Aquia Accelerator apprentice. “I feel very fortunate to have been afforded this opportunity and am thrilled to be a part of the team. I’m looking forward to learning and growing in the cybersecurity field.”
The company plans to open applications for its next round of Aquia Accelerator apprentices in Q3 2023.
